How Young Can My Child Start Music Lessons?

There is no statistical evidence that states what age a child should start taking private music lessons in a community like Weston.  Most children love the sounds of music from infancy.  However, there is much research showing that the study of music definitely helps children do better in school academically and socially.  Not only does music education, such as piano lessons, help children build confidence in school but it is also very beneficial for children with special needs.

There are many studies showing that babies develop the ability to hear sound and music as early as the 18th week of pregnancy.  Many music centers like ProMusic Plus in Weston, Florida, offer group classes beginning as young as 2 years of age.  The Little Mozart urriculum is specifically designed to appeal to toddlers so this class might be the best way to start teaching your child music.  This music academy often tells parents that 3 years is the best time to start private piano lessons using this special Little Mozart method.  The best time to start violin lessons, also available right here in Weston is 3 years of age as well with the world renowned Suzuki Method.  Because you do not need to be able to read music to learn the drums, 5 years old is a good time to start this instrument and harness all that young energy!  Once children are old enough to read well enough to read lyrics, usually by the age of 7, they can then move on to other instruments such as guitar, bass, voice, etc.  This is typically the age where children start reading well enough and can also physically meet the challenge of learning more advanced instruments.  Middle school ages are typically when students are introduced to the wind and brass instrument families, but students as young at 7 are also able to learn the flute, trumpet, clarinet, trombone, saxophone, etc.

Every child is different and you know best their capabilities and limitations.  The worst thing would be to push a child who is too young to study an instrument before they are ready.  Music can still be a part of early life even if it is just listening to a CD rather than trying to learn a new instrument.  Listening to songs is also a way to teach different instrument sounds and see if a child has an inclination towards a particular instrument.  If they already have an interest in one type of instrument, they are far more likely to be motivated to learn how to play it.  Similar to the advantages of learning a language in the younger years, the time to introduce music to children when their brains are still forming.  Finding age appropriate music classes, such as Piano Lessons, In Weston does takes some research.  The key is finding the right teacher who can keep music fun at this young age.
